ANAC expands actions for the distribution of vaccines against Covid-19
In another action aimed at combating and controlling the Covid-19 Pandemic, Brazil’s Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC, in Portuguese) approved the changes in Resolution # 600 on January 12, allowing airlines to transport refrigerated vaccines with dry ice in the cabin aircraft passengers, under specific conditions established by the Agency, such as the absence of passengers during transport. The measure comes in anticipation of the expected demand for domestic and international air transport of large quantities of vaccines for the actions provided for in the National Vaccine Operationalization Plan against Covid-19. Although not classified as a dangerous product, vaccines must be transported at low temperatures, with cases requiring a temperature below -70° C. Dry ice is classified as a dangerous, and for this reason, it must follow several requirements defined in regulations, so that its transport by air occurs safely, according to Ordinance SPO 3,967/2021, published in the Official Gazette of Union (DOU, in Portuguese) on 1/14. The procedures to be followed by air operators who carry out vaccines against Covid-19 are presented in the Guide “Procedures for the Transport of Vaccines Containing Dry Ice”, which can be found at https://www.anac.gov.br/noticias/2021/anac-amplia-acoes-para-a-distribuicao-de-vacinas-contra-a-covid-19
